What is a Full Flake Flooring System?

Full flake flooring is a multi-layer, resinous coating system for concrete floors. First, a resin and a hardener chemically react to form a durable, high-performing layer bonded to the concrete below. Vinyl flakes are added prior to the clear topcoat to give it the signature textured look. The new coating takes a few days to fully cure, and you are left with a resilient and stunning floor that will look brand new for many years to come.

Why Get New Full Flake Floors?

Safety

Full flake floors offer a slip-resistant, grippy surface. This is a particularly great option for commercial spaces with safety regulations or garages where spills and moisture from cars threaten a slippery surface. Traction is created by both the flakes and the polyaspartic topcoat. Additionally, the seamless finish limits tripping hazards.

The polyaspartic top coat has antimicrobial properties to decrease bacteria and pathogen growth. Because there are no seams, there are no crevices for mold to grow or dust to settle, and the air quality of your space improves.

Durability

Full flake floors make your concrete a much more durable surface because the compound is more flexible than concrete. The flexible surface can hold several times the amount of PSI than uncoated concrete. Full flake flooring lengthens the lifespan of your concrete by protecting it from cracks, chips, and scratches.

Water damage and the freeze-thaw cycle pose a huge threat to concrete’s condition. Full flake floors protect from water damage by sealing the concrete pores. The seal also shields against chemicals and stains that would ordinarily sink into the surface.

Cost-Effectiveness

Full flake flooring is a great return on investment. The upfront cost is affordable compared to other flooring solutions, and protecting your concrete will save you money long term. With proper care, full flake flooring can last for decades, and it adds value to your property.

Effortless Cleaning

Cleaning full flake floors is simple and inexpensive. It’s recommended to sweep often depending on how much traffic you get. Excess dirt and dust can grind into the surface when it is repeatedly trampled upon. Spills can simply be wiped up. The antimicrobial coat does not require harsh cleaning agents, but instead, you can mop with warm water and a mild, diluted detergent if necessary.

Our Full Flake Coating Process

Surface preparation is the key to having a long-lasting full flake floor. First, we will grind the surface. Creating a surface profile on the concrete creates a strong adherence between the coating and concrete. We also clean the surface of residue, like oils, paints, dirt, and dust. Any existing cracks or damage must also be repaired before applying any floor coating.

Then, we begin coating. The first coat is a resinous primer. We use an automatic sprayer for this to ensure an even coat over the entire surface. The pigmented layer goes on next.

Next, we disperse the vinyl flakes. Depending on your desired style and timeframe, we can use an automatic sprayer or do this manually. The color and size of the flake are fully customizable.

Finally, we coat the floor with a final, protective seal that safeguards against UV, dirt, and damage. Allow the floor to fully cure before resuming use.
