Traditional, untreated concrete is dull and prone to damage. However, the multi-step polishing process densifies, grinds, and buffs the floor. Think of this process as sanding a piece of wood. We use an industrial diamond grinder and a variety of grit pads to polish the floor.

Traditional polished concrete preserves the classic appearance of concrete while bringing it to life with a mirror-like shine. The level of gloss is customizable. A high-gloss finish adds reflectivity, brightens your space, and possibly even saves you some money on your electric bill.
Though reconditioning your floor can be a serious interruption to everyday life or business, polished concrete is one of the best options for a quick turnaround. Though the polishing process requires quite a few steps, professionals use industrial machines for maximum efficiency. After the polishing is complete, you can use the floor immediately. A waiting period for drying or curing is not necessary as it is for other flooring solutions.
Untreated concrete is subject to an unwanted process called efflorescence. This is when water sinks into the pores causing salt minerals and dust to be flushed onto the surface, creating that familiar white, powdery substance on the concrete. However, polished concrete stops water and minerals from absorbing into the surface and it puts an end to efflorescence. Similarly, contaminants and allergens can no longer settle into the concrete pores.
Due to the increased densification, polished concrete is significantly stronger than unpolished concrete. It is very difficult to crack or chip, and it is able to bear heavy loads and high foot traffic. While other flooring solutions require recoating or replacement, polished concrete can last a lifetime.
Cleaning polished concrete doesn’t require much maintenance, and the cleaning process is easy. Since the concrete doesn’t trap dust or dirt, all you have to do is sweep and mop as needed. You can simply mop with warm water, or you can use a neutral pH cleaner for heavily soiled floors.
The success of any concrete polishing job starts with surface preparation. Our first steps are to fill all cracks, level uneven slabs, and make any other necessary repairs. We’ll also mechanically remove the existing coating if there is one.
Next, we will grind the concrete with a coarse-grit diamond grinder, around 30-40 grit. We repeat this step a few times with finer grit attachments.
After the floor is “cut” with the initial grinding, we apply a chemical densifier to harden the concrete and make it extremely durable. We’ll allow the densifier to dry before moving on to the final polishing.
Now, we’ll polish the concrete. This is performed with the same diamond grinder as step two, but the grit is finer. We’ll repeat the grinding with a progressively finer grit pad until the desired gloss is achieved. The finer the grit, the shinier the surface will be.
